Busy Hands - A Place to Grow with Heart

At Busy Hands, we nurture a lifelong love for learning through deep relationships, cultural belonging, and holistic development. Rooted in te Tiriti o Waitangi and inspired by Montessori and Te Whāriki, our centre empowers every tamaiti to thrive, be proud of who they are, and explore the world with confidence.

Our philosophy is built on whanaungatanga (strong relationships), turangawaewae (a place of belonging), ako (shared learning), and wairua (spiritual wellbeing). We create an environment where each child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to express themselves freely. Through authentic partnerships with whānau, our tamariki grow as confident explorers, guided by curiosity and respect.

Elements of Learning. Committed to Excellence

At Busy Hands Montessori, our curriculum is guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, Mātauranga Māori, and authentic Montessori education. We honour every child's right to learn, grow, and explore in their own time and way.

Our approach fosters a lifelong love for learning, grounded in respectful relationships (whanaungatanga), a deep sense of identity (turangawaewae), and shared learning (ako) - all underpinned by our commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Each child is empowered to take the lead in their learning through meaningful exploration, supported by kaiako and whānau working in partnership. We value every step of their growth — emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual. read more

Elements

Practical Life

The heart of our Montessori approach. These everyday tasks support independence, coordination, and confidence in our tamariki.

Sensorial

Children explore the world through their senses, learning to observe, sort, and compare—laying the foundation for critical thinking.

Art

We provide time every day for creativity—through drawing, painting, crafting, singing, dancing, and movement.

Cultural

The Montessori cultural area includes Science, Geography, Zoology, Botany, and History. These hands-on experiences spark curiosity and help tamariki explore the world by answering their ā€œwhat?ā€, ā€œwhy?ā€, and ā€œhow?ā€ questions.

Outdoor

Outdoor play is a big part of developing for young children. We strive to provide them with varied opportunities at Montessori to enhance their developing skills.

Math

Children explore numbers using hands-on materials that build real understanding. From counting to problem-solving, learning grows step by step.

Language

Language comes alive through stories, conversation, and play. Tamariki develop reading and writing skills with joy and purpose.

We believe children thrive when they feel a deep sense of belonging and connection. Our kaiako create learning spaces that honour each child’s identity, curiosity, and wairua, empowering them to explore, learn, and grow with confidence.

  1. Te Tiriti o Waitangi – Guiding Principles

We honour Māori as tangata whenua, uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and embrace tikanga, te reo, and whakapapa to support each child’s identity, belonging, and tino rangatiratanga (self-determination).

  2. Whanaungatanga – Relationships

We build relationships rooted in aroha (love), mana (respect), and wairua (holistic care). Through āta (gentle transitions), every tamaiti, whānau, and kaiako is supported to feel heard, valued, and empowered to grow together.

  3. Turangawaewae – A Place of My Own

Each child deserves a place where they feel grounded, accepted, and safe. We nurture an environment of peace (rangimārie) where tamariki can stand tall, express their identity, and thrive in their uniqueness and whakapapa.

  4. Ako – Teaching and Learning

Learning is shared. Inspired by Montessori and Te Whāriki, our ako approach connects children, teachers, and whānau. We value all voices and foster growth through observation, planning, and engagement.

First of all I would like to thank you my friend who recommended busyhand Montessori for my daughter. She was just 2 years old when she started her Montessori. She was very confused and scary for the first few days but later she was thrilled to see her friends and teachers. Busyhand Montessori was a second home for our child as she got great attention and care from her teachers. We would highly recommend this facility to every parents who are thinking about a safe place for their children.
